Historically, stretching an SNL skit into a full length feature film has been, with the notable exceptions of Wayne’s World and The Blues Brothers, an exercise in scatological cinematography. Wouldn’t it be even worse to do that with a sketch from the VH-1 Fashion Awards?

Not necessarily. Ben Stiller’s Derek Zoolander is more fully developed than real models Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell combined. Truthfully, you can’t go wrong with Ben Stiller. From his his beginnings as Eddie Munster on SNL, throughout the genius, yet failed Ben Stiller Show, up to now, I can only name one Ben Stiller project that I disliked – The Cable Guy. I thoroughly hated The Cable Guy – and not because of Ben Stiller, but because of that comedy carcinoma, Jim Carrey.

Beyond Derek Zoolander, there lies Hansel. Owen Wilson overcomes his fucked up nose to become model of the year. His flowing blond hair and cowboy boots are fathoms sexier than the crew cut he sported in Bottle Rocket. And then there were the angel wings…

But it was Will Ferrell who made me fall off the couch laughing. Mugatu was beyond any of the usual stuff he gets to do on SNL – Dubya, Janet Reno or that Night at the Roxbury crap. What the hell are they gonna do without him? I predict SNL‘s cancellation within a year.

Mmmm…Billy Zane. ‘Nuff said.

As funny as the film is, there are still some pretty retarded parts. Milla Jovovich’s part isn’t all that funny, and the end is pretty dopey, but the orgy with Derek, Hansel, Matilda, a bunch of dwarves and a Maori tribesman more than makes up for it.
